Beeing a dental lab technician, you have to decide where the TheraMon® transponder has to be placed within the brace, so patients are not affected in wearing comfort. For the implementation itself you will not require any special tools or special knowhow besides your existing konwledge.
Mostly the installation of the TheraMon® transponder is one of the last steps upon completion of a brace. Just take an new transponder and place it into the reader für registration and activation. Shortly before removing excessive material you just need to mill sufficient space suitable for the TheraMon® transponder. Afterwards you need to cover the transponder entirely with the same plastic material the brace is made of, remove excess material and polish the brace to a bright shine - just as you do normally anyway. f ter you work is completed, place the brace again into the reader and confirm the function of the transponder one more time by reading the braces memory. This way you also receive a positive feedback about your correct implementation of the transponder. Afterwards the brace can be sterilized and put into proper packaging to hand out to the dentist or orthodontist.
During installation the TheraMon® transponder must never be exposed to temperatures above 60°C ( 140°F) as this could damage the accumulator of the transponder. This is completely without any risk for the patient but could shorten the lifetime of the battery or even destroy the transponders functionality. In such case, the transponder would need to be replaced and documeted valuable wearing time could be lost.
If you install TheraMon® transponders for splints beeing processed in using deep-drawing technology, the foils are heated up to 220°C ( 420°F) or even higher. Although this temperatires are very high, the fast deep-drawing process prevents the transponder to heat up and normally remains below this strict limit of 60°C ( 140°F). We experienced that using TheraMon® transponders together with apropriate deep-drawing technology should not harm the transponder.
